The National Biosafety Laboratory BSL-3+ unit consists of two rooms: one room with BSC-2 cabinets for working with RG3 viruses and vegetative bacteria and one with a two-person glove box for working with B. anthracis. The BSL-3+ unit is equipped with the standard laboratory and with a 9-cage individually ventilated animal cages system for small animals.

In this unit the full-face powered air respiratory protection and personal decontamination shower is mandatory. Different methods such as isolation in vivo and in vitro, antibiotic susceptibility tests, biochemical testing, neutralization tests, molecular methods (PCR, sequencing) are used. The National Biosafety Laboratory BSL-3+ unit has the capacity to test vaccine candidates, antimicrobial compounds, diagnostic materials, whole genome sequencing of RG3 bacteria with bioinformatics analysis, produce polyclonal mouse/rabbit sera.
