The results of EVIDENT helped to better understand the immune response of survivors (antibody titers, including neutralizing antibodies, and T cell reactivity in survivors), revealed the evolutionary history and molecular clock of the virus during the epidemic with multiple spreading events of the virus across country borders. The study was the first to find that all body fluids contain virus RNA until convalescence and studied the pathophysiology of Ebola virus disease. As it turned out, the Ebola virus as a new potentially sexually transmitted disease persists after convalescence in breast milk and seminal fluid. National Biosafety Laboratory was responsible to determine the stability of the Ebola virus in different clinical specimens and to isolate the virus from different clinical samples during the course of disease.
